My latest blog post for the Illuminating 2016 project focuses on the most retweeted and most liked social media messages in the 2016 U.S. Election. Social media metrics such as likes on Facebook and retweets on Twitter are relevant for political campaigns insofar as they demonstrate the types of messaging that resonate with the electorate. To understand the types of messaging engaging supporters, I analyze Clinton’s and Trump’s top-liked and top-retweeted messages featured on the Illuminating 2016 dashboard for eight weeks prior to the election day.
